The factory plastic barbell is approximately .020” to loose so particles as big as 500 Microns can leak passed the factory Barbell. When oil leaks pass the Barbell it goes unfiltered directly to the Cam Bearing, Lifters, Crank and Rod Bearings. Your oil filter will filter out approximately 25 Microns depending on the brand of filter. Our HAWKS Motorsport 7075 Aluminum Precision Billet Barbell fits with approximately .001” clearance which will let only about 20-25 Microns pass by, that is the same as the filter.
Another important part is the shaft of the Barbell. The oil has to flow around it to get through to the oil port. Our Billet Barbell has a 30% smaller shaft for much less flow restriction
Keep unfiltered oil out of your engine by plugging off the oil bypass check valve. The factory bypass check valve can let unfiltered oil into your engines bearings and lifters. The HAWKS Motorsports 7075 billet aluminum bypass delete replaces the factory check valve preventing unfiltered oil from getting into the engine.
The factory bypass check valve is a safety in case the oil filter never gets changed and the filter gets restricted. Most oil filters already have a bypass built into them for this reason. The factory check valve can open with oil pressure surges, letting unfiltered oil by and into the bearings.
A 1/4-20 threaded hole in the end of our bypass delete & barbell for easy removal. Just screw a 1/4-20 bolt in and pull the delete out if ever necessary.
Better engine protection from less particles bypassing, replaceable High Temperature Viton O ring and for ease of service a threaded 1/4-20 hole.
NOTE: Make sure your Bypass valve is located in the filter adapter housing like in the picture BEFORE ORDERING! Some are located inside the oil pan, this product will not work if your delete is inside the oil pan.
