When & why replace the window guides and sash mount assemblies?
As the decades go by the windows on your Camaro Firebird/Trans Am tend to wear out, they are hard to roll up and down. The guides and tracks simply don’t want to play nice with each other. The window will fall out of alignment due to failed guide rollers, or worse jam up the whole assembly.
BUT thee is help on the way! Just like a bad transmission the side glass can all be rebuild and restored.
HOW HARD IS IT TO REPLACE?
This is an in-depth repair to do at home. It involves removing the door panels, and dismantling of the window tracks. Next you will be removing the window glass from the door and then the guides and sash assemblies. (Specific tool is required) We offer this also if needed.
The tear down is easy overall, the reassembly is also pretty straight forward. However once installed you will need to adjust the window angle and pitch adjustments which can make you want to have bamboo inserted into your nail beds instead. Simply put either have a friend assist who knows F-bodies, or if doing a restoration have the folks restoring your car do this. If you know the process well this is an easy job, if you are going in it blind, well……. Good luck with that my friend.
