This reproduction service part repairs compatible factory GM power antennas with a broken mast drive cable. The original plastic cable can become brittle and break with age, preventing the antenna from raising or lowering properly and sometimes causing the power-antenna motor to continue running after reaching the end of its travel.
The set includes:
- One upper power-antenna mast section
- Integral upgraded drive cable
- Screw-on antenna tip
This repair set replaces original GM service part number 19151297.
The upgraded cable replaces the failure-prone original plastic component while retaining the vehicle’s existing factory power-antenna assembly. The supplied mast forms the upper portion of the original telescopic antenna.
The following original components must be present, serviceable and reused:
- Factory power-antenna motor
- Motor housing and internal drive mechanism
- Antenna tube assembly
- Remaining telescopic mast sections
- Factory wiring and relay system
- Mounting bracket, bezel and related hardware
This is not a complete power-antenna assembly. It will not repair a failed motor, damaged drive gear, defective relay, seized lower mast section, broken housing, damaged wiring or missing antenna assembly.
Compatible factory GM power antennas used on various 1982-1993 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac passenger cars. Confirmed restoration-market applications include compatible 1982-1988 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird factory power-antenna assemblies.
Because GM used several antenna designs during this period, the year range does not mean this repair set fits every model or every power antenna produced from 1982-1993. Compare the original mast, screw-on tip, drive cable and antenna assembly with the product before ordering. Vehicles with a fixed antenna, aftermarket power antenna or later replacement assembly require different components.
The power-antenna assembly must generally be removed and partially disassembled to replace the mast and cable. Inspect the internal drive gear and thoroughly remove any pieces of the broken original cable before installing the replacement. Professional installation is recommended if the condition of the existing motor or internal mechanism is unknown.
