Repair a worn pop-up headlight actuator gear with this headlight motor repair kit for 1993–2002 Pontiac Firebird, Formula and Trans Am models and late-2000–2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5 models equipped with the plastic-housing actuator. Each kit supplies an aluminum gear, rubber bumper and housing-support components to service one headlight actuation unit.

Check the housing before ordering: Some early-2000 Corvettes retain the earlier metal-housing actuator. This kit is specified for the molded-plastic housing. A metal housing with a side cover held by three screws requires the corresponding earlier-style repair kit. Replacement motors may differ from the car’s original equipment, so inspect the installed actuator rather than relying on model year alone.

A worn actuator gear can produce grinding as the headlight reaches its fully open or closed position. This repair services the aluminum gear and rubber bumper inside the existing actuator. Diagnose the fault before repair; damage elsewhere in the motor, wiring or mechanism may require additional service.
The support brace and bushing provide another bearing surface for the shaft and help support the side cover. This design reduces the load carried by the plastic housing cover and its adhesive joint. The rubber bumper is renewed along with the gear during the rebuild.
- Confirm that the installed actuator has the compatible molded-plastic housing. Read the supplied instructions before disassembly.
- Disconnect electrical power before removing or servicing the actuator, and support the headlight assembly while working around the linkage.
- The plastic housing opens at its factory adhesive joint. Follow the supplied procedure to avoid damaging the housing and side cover.
- Replace the gear and bumper, apply the supplied lubricant as directed, and fit the brace, bushing and washer in the specified arrangement.
- Prepare and reseal the cover with the supplied adhesive according to the instructions and adhesive directions. Check assembly and linkage clearance before restoring power and testing operation.
Repair quantity: Order one kit for each actuator requiring repair. If both headlight actuators need rebuilding, two kits are required. Installation instructions are supplied with the kit.
Does one kit repair both headlights?
One kit repairs one headlight actuation unit. Two kits are needed when both actuators require rebuilding.
Will it fit every 2000 Corvette?
The Corvette application begins with the late-2000 plastic-housing design. Some early-2000 cars have the earlier metal housing. Inspect the actual actuator before selecting the kit.
