Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports offers our clients this 1974-1981 Camaro Firebird Trans Am Black Foam-Backed Perforated Vinyl ABS Hardtop Headliner Board with Upper Seat Belt Retractor Cutouts, Acme AFH21-FBH1.

Replace a sagging, cracked, warped or deteriorated original headliner with this complete molded ABS replacement headliner board. The board is pre-covered in Black foam-backed perforated vinyl, providing a finished factory-style appearance without requiring the purchaser to separately recover the headliner.

Acme part number AFH21-FBH1 is identified as the Black version of the AFH21 headliner assembly. The covering uses perforated foam-backed vinyl over a vacuum-formed ABS plastic board and includes the upper rear seat belt retractor cutouts used with the applicable second-generation Camaro and Firebird roof configuration.

The molded ABS construction provides a durable replacement for an original pressboard or fiberboard headliner that has deteriorated from age, heat, moisture or failed adhesive. The board follows the hardtop roof contour and is designed around the vehicle’s factory-style attachment locations.

The perforated vinyl face and foam backing recreate the padded, textured appearance associated with factory-style vinyl headliners. Accessory openings for the dome light, sun visor brackets and other mounting locations are formed in the ABS board but may remain concealed beneath the covering until they are exposed during installation.

This listing includes the complete pre-covered headliner board. Sun visors, visor brackets, surrounding roof trim, dome-light components and mounting hardware are not included.

The AFH21 headliner-board family is listed for 1975-1981 Camaro and Firebird models and for 1974 vehicles equipped with upper seat belt retractors.

1974 fitment warning: Confirm that the vehicle uses the later-style upper seat belt retractor arrangement. A different board configuration may be required for vehicles without the upper retractor openings.

Roof-style warning: This Hawks Motorsports listing is for the hardtop or solid-roof configuration. The board arrives formed in the hardtop roof shape and should not be described as a pre-cut T-top headliner.

T-top application note: Acme’s instructions cover both solid-roof and T-top installations, but the hardtop-shaped board must be marked and cut for the vehicle’s specific T-top opening. Multiple conversion configurations were used, so the exact roof system must be identified before modification.

Factory-originality note: Black is suitable across the broader 1974-1981 application range, but customers performing a factory-correct restoration should verify the original trim color and whether the vehicle originally used perforated vinyl or cloth.

INSTALLATION NOTES

Remove the sun visors, visor brackets, side roof moldings, rear headliner trim, dome-light assembly and other components retaining the original headliner. Preserve all reusable screws, clips, brackets and trim because these pieces are generally not included with the replacement board.

Carefully remove the original headliner and test-fit the new ABS board before cutting the Black covering. Confirm that the upper seat belt retractor openings, roof contour, visor mounts and surrounding trim locations align correctly.

The ABS board includes pre-cut accessory openings beneath the covering material. After identifying a required opening, make a small X-shaped cut through the vinyl at its center. Fold the material toward the back of the board and secure it to produce a clean finished edge.

Position and center the board before fully tightening the sun visor brackets and surrounding trim. Do not force the headliner into position or overtighten the mounting hardware, as excessive pressure may damage the ABS board, vinyl covering or original interior moldings.

For a T-top installation, test-fit and mark the board before making permanent cuts. Remove the board, carefully trim the required roof openings and reinstall it using the original T-top brackets and moldings. Professional installation is recommended before modifying the board.

Black materials can appear lighter, darker or grayer because of photography lighting, display settings, surface reflections and production dye-lot variation. Compare a physical sample when an exact match with existing Black trim is required.
