For a gearhead putting together a serious small-block, good fasteners are cheap insurance compared with chasing head-gasket problems later. INSTALLATION NOTES

• Clean all cylinder-block threads before installation and chase the threads if necessary.
• Clean and inspect the fasteners before installation.
• Install the chamfered side of each washer toward the bolt head.
• If a bolt enters a water jacket, ARP specifies thread sealer on the threads.
• If a bolt enters a blind hole, ARP specifies ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant.
• Apply ARP Ultra-Torque to the underside of the bolt head and washers as directed by ARP.
• Follow the cylinder-head manufacturer's recommended tightening sequence.
• ARP specifies tightening the bolts in three equal steps to 70 ft-lbs using ARP Ultra-Torque lubricant.
