Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following Roto-fab cold air intake system with sound tube delete for the 2016-2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Roto-fab designed this system to maximize the available space within the sixth-generation Camaro engine compartment. The large filter, high-volume airbox and custom-molded ductwork provide a less restrictive intake path while maintaining an effective barrier against engine-compartment heat.

The open-top airbox seals against the underside of the Camaro’s hood. This design maximizes usable airbox volume while creating a barrier between the air filter and surrounding engine heat.

This sound tube delete version replaces the original sound-tube connection with a smooth inlet elbow that does not contain a sound-tube provision. A block-off plate closes the original sound-tube opening at the firewall, producing a cleaner engine-compartment appearance while allowing the natural intake sound to remain audible.

Two filter options are available:

  • Part #1016-1050: Pre-oiled red filter
  • Part #1016-1051: Dry gray filter

Select the desired filter type using the product options before placing your order.

Filter Options

1016-1050 – Oiled Filter

The oiled-filter version includes a red, reusable filter that arrives pre-oiled and ready for installation.

Roto-fab specifies 89 grams of filter oil when servicing this filter.

  • Filter type: Oiled
  • Filter color: Red
  • Replacement filter: Roto-fab 1013-5013
  • Tune required: No

1016-1051 – Dry Filter

The dry-filter version includes a gray reusable filter that does not require filter oil during normal servicing.

  • Filter type: Dry
  • Filter color: Gray
  • Replacement filter: Roto-fab 1013-5014
  • Tune required: No

Fitment Applications

Designed for:

  • 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2021 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2022 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2023 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L
  • 2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS 6.2L

The SS 1LE package does not change the basic intake application when the vehicle retains the compatible naturally aspirated 6.2L intake configuration.

This intake is not intended for the supercharged Camaro ZL1. Vehicles equipped with an aftermarket supercharger may require a supercharger-specific Roto-fab intake system.

What Does the Sound Tube Delete Do?

The factory sound tube channels engine-intake sound from the inlet system toward the passenger compartment.

This Roto-fab version eliminates that tube from the inlet elbow back to the firewall. The system uses:

  • A smooth inlet elbow without the original sound-tube connection
  • A block-off plate for the original firewall opening

The delete provides a cleaner engine-compartment appearance without eliminating the natural induction sound produced by the Roto-fab intake.

Customers who want to retain the factory sound tube should use the corresponding Roto-fab intake with sound-tube accommodation:

  • 1016-1048 – Oiled filter with factory sound-tube accommodation
  • 1016-1049 – Dry filter with factory sound-tube accommodation

Installation Notes

Roto-fab designed the system to install using the Camaro’s established intake locations without requiring an engine calibration on a compatible vehicle.

Before installation, confirm that the vehicle is a naturally aspirated Camaro SS application and determine whether the factory sound tube will be permanently removed.

Carefully transfer the mass airflow sensor to the Roto-fab intake without touching or contaminating its sensing elements. Confirm that all intake connections are fully seated and that the airbox seals correctly against the underside of the hood.

After installation, start the engine and inspect the intake path for loose connections, air leaks or abnormal warning indicators. Detailed color instructions are supplied with the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 1016-1050 and 1016-1051?

Part #1016-1050 includes a pre-oiled red filter. Part #1016-1051 includes a dry gray filter. The intake system and sound tube delete configuration are otherwise intended for the same Camaro SS application.

Does this intake require a tune?

Roto-fab identifies both versions as not requiring a tune on an otherwise compatible application.

Future engine modifications or custom forced-induction combinations may require separate calibration.

Does this system retain the factory sound tube?

No. These two part numbers permanently eliminate the original sound tube and include a smooth replacement elbow and firewall block-off plate.

Will I still hear the intake after deleting the sound tube?

Yes. The delete removes the tube that channels intake sound toward the passenger compartment, but the larger Roto-fab filter and intake system still produce a naturally aggressive induction sound.

Which filter option provides more performance?

Roto-fab offers both filter types for the same intake application. The primary difference is the preferred servicing method rather than a manufacturer-published performance difference.

Does the oiled filter arrive ready to install?

Yes. The 1016-1050 filter arrives pre-oiled. Roto-fab specifies 89 grams of oil when the filter is serviced.

Does the dry filter require oil?

No. The dry filter included with 1016-1051 should be serviced as a dry filter and does not require filter oil.

What are the replacement filter part numbers?

  • Oiled replacement filter: Roto-fab 1013-5013
  • Dry replacement filter: Roto-fab 1013-5014

Will this fit a Camaro ZL1?

No. The supercharged ZL1 requires an intake designed for its specific engine and airflow configuration.

Will it fit a Camaro with an aftermarket supercharger?

Do not assume compatibility. Roto-fab offers intake systems configured for certain supercharger applications. Verify the supercharger manufacturer and intake configuration before ordering.

Is this product legal for sale or use in California?

Roto-fab states that these systems are not available for sale or use in California. Confirm all applicable emissions regulations before ordering or installing the product.
