Many shops and DIY builders upgrading boost levels on Gen 5 Camaro SS applications (2010–2015) have experienced limitations with the factory supercharger tensioner. The stock unit is simply not designed for increased performance demands.
Key limitations of the factory tensioner include:
- Insufficient travel to compensate for belt stretch under boost
- Inadequate tension to maintain consistent belt grip and prevent slippage
Under load, a supercharger belt behaves like an elastic band—stretching as boost increases. Without proper tension management, this leads to loss of efficiency and belt slip.
The JRE Super Tensioner is engineered to permanently resolve these issues by delivering:
- Approximately twice the tension capacity of the factory unit
- Significantly increased travel to maintain optimal belt engagement under load
