Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the 134-6006 Gen III/IV LS Series and 6.2L LT1 Connecting Rod Bolt Kit from ARP. This High Performance Series rod bolt kit is designed for factory GM "cracked cap" connecting rods and is listed by ARP for Gen III/IV LS-series applications and 6.2L LT1 engines, excluding LS7 and LS9. The kit includes 16 connecting rod bolts manufactured from 8740 chromoly steel.

For an LS engine that's getting torn down for a rebuild, rod bolts are one of those pieces of hardware you don't want to overlook. These ARP 8740 chromoly bolts give the bottom end a serious upgrade over the original rod fasteners, making them a solid choice for a performance-oriented engine build while keeping the factory cracked-cap rod configuration. ARP rates these bolts at approximately 200,000 psi tensile strength.

ARP manufactures these bolts from seamless, defect-free 8740 chromoly steel and heat treats them before precision grinding and thread rolling. The bolts feature a large underhead radius designed to improve strength and reduce stress concentration. This kit uses a 12-point head and is supplied as a set of 16 bolts.

Verified Engine Applications

ARP's current catalog identifies 134-6006 for:

  • Gen III LS Series
  • Gen IV LS Series
  • 6.2L LT1
  • Factory "cracked cap" connecting rods
  • Excludes LS7 and LS9

Commonly associated LS applications include:

  • LS1 5.7L
  • LS6 5.7L
  • LS2 6.0L
  • LS3 6.2L
  • L92 6.2L
  • Other compatible Gen III/IV LS engines using the specified factory cracked-cap rod design

The exact connecting rod design must be verified before ordering. The application is determined by the connecting rod and bolt design, not simply the engine displacement.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION NOTES AND EXCLUSIONS

  • Designed specifically for factory cracked-cap connecting rods.
  • Will not fit LS7 connecting rods.
  • ARP's catalog also excludes LS9 from the 134-6006 application.
  • The kit contains 16 rod bolts.
  • Nuts are not included with this cap-screw-style rod bolt kit.
  • ARP also offers 234-6301 ARP2000 rod bolts for compatible LS cracked-cap applications. The 234-6301 is a different material/series and should not be treated as the same product.
  • Verify the connecting rod head style and application before ordering.

INSTALLATION NOTES

ARP's installation instructions specifically recommend using the stretch method when tightening these rod bolts. The specified stretch is 0.0055"–0.0060". If a stretch gauge is unavailable, ARP's instruction sheet specifies 40 ft-lbs using ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant.

Important engine-building note: ARP states that connecting rods should be resized after new rod bolts are installed. Proper rod resizing and bearing-clearance verification should therefore be part of the engine-building process.

  • Verify the correct ARP part number for the connecting rod application.
  • Check the rod-cap bolt-hole chamfer for adequate clearance around the bolt-head radius.
  • Lubricate the threads and underhead area with ARP Ultra-Torque as directed.
  • Prefer the stretch method for final fastener installation.
  • Verify connecting-rod dimensions after installation of the new bolts.
  • Follow the current ARP instructions for final assembly procedures.
