Product Description:
This steel transmission crossmember is engineered for 1984-1992 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird projects combining a traditional Small Block Chevy or Big Block Chevy engine with a T56 six-speed manual transmission.
Its application-specific geometry supports proper transmission positioning in the third-generation F-Body chassis and provides a durable black powder-coated swap component without cutting or fabrication when used in the verified configuration.

- One Hawks steel T56 transmission crossmember
- Black powder-coated finish
- Application-specific chassis and drivetrain geometry
Transmission mount, optional crossmember fasteners, torque arm solution, transmission, engine mounts, driveshaft and exhaust components are selected separately.

Specific Engine and Transmission Pairing
This crossmember is for a traditional SBC or BBC combined with a compatible T56. It is not the Hawks LS-swap T56 crossmember and should not be chosen for an LS engine solely because the transmission is a T56.
Bolt-In Chassis Design
Hawks describes the verified configuration as a direct bolt-in installation without cutting or fabrication. Previous chassis modifications can change that result and must be evaluated.
Complete Swap Geometry
Crossmember fit is only one part of drivetrain placement. Engine mounts, bellhousing, transmission variant, mount height, driveshaft and pinion angle must work together as a complete system.

- Support the vehicle safely and follow the factory procedure for transmission support and crossmember removal.
- Confirm the chassis year, engine family and T56 transmission configuration before disassembly.
- Support the transmission independently before loosening the existing crossmember.
- Inspect the chassis mounting points and transmission-mount area for damage or previous modifications.
- Test-fit the crossmember and verify that all mounting points align without forcing the assembly.
- Install the selected transmission mount and fasteners appropriate to the application.
- Set drivetrain position and working angles according to the complete swap design.
- Torque all fasteners to the applicable specifications and verify clearance before road testing.
