UMI Performance 4066 is a premium front sway-bar package engineered for applicable Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, and GMC A-body vehicles. It is designed to reduce front-end body roll, improve steering response, and produce flatter, more controlled cornering without unnecessarily compromising normal street-driving comfort.
The fixed-rate sway bar measures 1-1/4 inches, or approximately 32mm, in diameter and is manufactured from solid 4140 chromoly steel. Each bar is CNC-bent for consistent geometry, strength, and proper alignment with the vehicle’s factory-style front sway-bar mounting locations.
UMI publishes a 530 lb/in deflection rating for its corresponding 1-1/4-inch solid front sway-bar design. This makes #4066 an excellent multipurpose upgrade for restored street cars, performance cruisers, Pro-Touring builds, autocross vehicles, road-course cars, and other handling-oriented GM A-body applications.
The distinguishing feature of UMI #4066 is its included UMI #90066 billet-aluminum frame-mount system. These precision-machined mounts provide additional strength, reduced bracket flex, and a polished high-performance appearance compared with conventional stamped-steel sway-bar brackets.
Greaseable polyurethane frame bushings provide positive bar control while allowing routine lubrication. Polyurethane end-link assemblies connect the bar to the factory-style lower-control-arm locations. UMI #2649 swivel-style end links are also compatible and available separately for customers seeking a more competition-oriented connection.

Important Fitment Notes
- This listing is centered on the classic 1964-1977 GM A-body platform.
- The vehicle must retain factory-style front sway-bar frame locations and lower-control-arm end-link locations.
- This is a fixed-rate, non-adjustable sway bar.
- This application should not be confused with the later 1978-1988 GM G-body platform.
- The 1974 Pontiac GTO used the smaller X-body platform and should not be included as an A-body application.
- The supplied end links are intended for most factory, reasonably raised, and reasonably lowered ride heights.
- Many standard-spindle, tall-spindle, and tall-ball-joint combinations are compatible.
- Excessively raised or lowered vehicles may require different-length end links.
- End-link position and angle must be evaluated with the vehicle resting at normal ride height.
- The end links do not need to be perfectly vertical for the sway bar to function correctly.
- UMI permits shortening the supplied end-link spacer sleeves by up to 3/4 inch when shorter end links are required.
- Installing the sway bar upside down can create tie-rod clearance problems.
- Engine swaps, aftermarket control arms, additional caster, frame damage, frame sag, or significantly altered suspension geometry can affect clearance.
- Check clearance around the idler arm, tie rods, brake lines, control arms, oil pan, and surrounding components before operating the vehicle.
- Vehicles with larger-diameter idler-arm pivots may benefit from UMI A-body sway-bar relocation bracket #4068.
- UMI #2649 swivel-style end links are available separately for performance-oriented installations.
- Confirm that the billet mounts and bushings are positioned correctly before final tightening.

6. INSTALLATION NOTES
- Installation uses the vehicle’s existing factory-style front sway-bar locations.
- Safely raise the front of the vehicle and support it by the frame before beginning installation.
- Remove the original end links, frame bushings, brackets, and front sway bar.
- Clean rust, scale, grease, and debris from the frame mounting areas.
- Confirm the correct sway-bar orientation before attaching it to the vehicle.
- When correctly positioned at normal ride height, the ends of the sway bar should be approximately level.
- If the ends angle sharply upward, the sway bar may be installed upside down.
- Apply an appropriate polyurethane-safe lubricant to the inside of the frame bushings and the corresponding sway-bar contact areas.
- Position the polyurethane frame bushings over the sway bar.
- Install the billet-aluminum mounts at the factory frame locations.
- Attach both end-link assemblies finger-tight before fully tightening the frame mounts.
- Center the sway bar from side to side before final tightening.
- The bar may be positioned slightly toward the passenger side if additional idler-arm clearance is required.
- Lower the vehicle onto its tires or suitable supporting blocks before final end-link tightening.
- The vehicle’s weight should be resting on the suspension during final end-link tightening.
- End-link washers must cup toward the polyurethane bushings.
- Do not grease the polyurethane end-link bushings.
- Tighten the end links only until the bushings begin to bulge slightly.
- Do not overtighten the end-link bushings.
- If the supplied end links are too long, UMI permits shortening the center sleeves by up to 3/4 inch.
- Additional caster, frame sag, aftermarket control arms, altered ride height, or modified suspension geometry can change the required end-link length.
- Rotate the steering completely from side to side and inspect for interference.
- Check tie-rod, idler-arm, brake-line, control-arm, oil-pan, and sway-bar clearance before operating the vehicle.
- Rotate the bar following initial lubrication to help distribute grease throughout the frame bushings.
- For periodic maintenance, UMI recommends approximately two to three full pumps of grease at each greaseable frame bushing.
- Having a second person assist with positioning the solid sway bar can simplify installation.
- Verify the vehicle’s toe alignment if the idler arm or steering-linkage position is changed.
