Hawks Motorsports is proud to offer our clients this : 1967-1969 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird Front Lower Control Arm Grade 8 Hardware Kit from UMI Performance.

UMI Performance #4001 provides the high-strength fasteners needed to attach both front lower control arms to the subframe of applicable 1967, 1968, and 1969 GM F-body models.

The kit includes four 1/2-inch SAE Grade 8 bolts, four flat washers, and four nylon-insert locking nuts. All supplied components feature a zinc coating that helps protect the hardware against corrosion while providing a clean, finished appearance.

Four bolts provide the two pivot fasteners required for each front lower control arm. UMI-4001 can be used with compatible UMI Performance lower A-arms, factory-style lower control arms, and other aftermarket control arms designed around the original 1/2-inch mounting dimensions.

This complete hardware package is an excellent choice when replacing original lower-control-arm fasteners that are worn, rusted, damaged, seized, or missing. It is suitable for factory restorations, front-suspension rebuilds, performance-street vehicles, Pro-Touring builds, autocross cars, road-course vehicles, and drag-racing applications.

Important Position Information

On 1967-1969 Camaro and Firebird models, UMI-4001 is used at the front lower A-arm pivot locations.

It is not rear suspension hardware for these leaf-spring-equipped F-body vehicles. It also does not provide the fasteners used to mount the front upper control arms.

Important Fitment Notes

  • UMI-4001 is used at the front lower-control-arm pivot locations.

6. INSTALLATION NOTES

  • Review the vehicle service manual and control-arm manufacturer’s instructions before installation.
  • Confirm that the vehicle and lower control arms require 1/2-inch mounting fasteners.
  • Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface.
  • Safely raise and support the vehicle using properly rated lifting equipment.
  • Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack.
  • Front coil springs store substantial energy and can cause serious injury if improperly handled.
  • Safely contain and support the front coil spring before removing a lower control arm.
  • Support the lower control arm and steering assembly during disassembly.
  • Replacing one lower control arm at a time can help preserve component orientation and reference points.
  • Record the direction and position of the original fasteners before removal.
  • Inspect the subframe mounting brackets for corrosion, cracking, distortion, or elongated holes.
  • Inspect the lower-control-arm bushing sleeves before installing the new hardware.
  • Do not force a bolt through a misaligned bushing sleeve or subframe bracket.
  • Correct the component alignment before inserting the fasteners.
  • Verify that the bolt shanks pass completely through the brackets and bushing sleeves.
  • Confirm that each nylon locking nut achieves full thread engagement.

  • UMI does not publish one universal torque specification for UMI-4001 that applies to every factory and aftermarket control arm.
  • Verify that the lower control arms move through their intended range without binding.
  • Check clearance around the coil springs, shocks, sway bar, steering components, brake hoses, wheels, and tires.
  • Complete a professional front-end alignment after replacing the lower control arms.
  • Reinspect the mounting hardware following the initial road test.
  • Periodically inspect the fasteners and mounting points as part of normal suspension maintenance.
