Hawks Motorsports is proud to offer our clients this : 1964-1977 GM A-Body Rear Lower Control Arm Grade 8 Bolt and Lock Nut Hardware Kit from UMI Performance.
UMI Performance #4001 provides new high-strength fasteners for installing a pair of compatible rear lower control arms on classic GM A-body vehicles.
The kit contains four 1/2-inch SAE Grade 8 bolts, four flat washers, and four nylon-insert locking nuts. All supplied components feature a zinc coating that helps protect the hardware against corrosion while providing a clean, finished appearance.
Four bolts provide the frame-side and rear-axle-side mounting hardware required for both the driver- and passenger-side rear lower control arms. The kit can be used with compatible UMI Performance control arms, original-style replacement control arms, and control arms from other manufacturers that retain the correct 1/2-inch mounting dimensions.
UMI-4001 is suitable for restorations, rear suspension rebuilds, performance-street vehicles, Pro-Touring builds, drag-racing applications, autocross vehicles, and other projects where the original control-arm fasteners are worn, rusted, damaged, or missing.

Important Package Information
One UMI-4001 kit installs one pair of rear lower control arms. It does not provide enough hardware to install both the upper and lower rear control arms.
UMI #4002 is the corresponding eight-bolt kit for applications requiring mounting hardware for both the upper and lower rear control arms.
Rear control arms, bushings, rear-end housing bushings, frame braces, sway bars, and other suspension components are not included with UMI-4001.
Front Lower A-Arm Compatibility
UMI-4001 may also be used as the front lower A-arm mounting kit on compatible 1964-1972 GM A-body applications using 1/2-inch pivot bolts.
It is not the correct front lower A-arm hardware kit for 1973-1977 A-body models. UMI catalogs #1003, which uses metric M14 fasteners, for the front lower A-arms on those vehicles.

Important Fitment Notes

- Compatible with applicable factory and aftermarket rear lower control arms.
- Verify compatibility when using custom-fabricated arms, modified mounting brackets, or non-original rear axle assemblies.
- Inspect all frame and axle mounting points for rust, cracks, distortion, or elongated holes.
- Damaged control-arm mounting locations must be properly repaired before installation.
- This kit does not include hardware for the rear upper control arms.
- Use UMI #4002 when replacing the hardware for both upper and lower rear control arms.
- UMI-4001 may also fit compatible 1964-1972 A-body front lower A-arms.
- Do not use UMI-4001 for the front lower A-arms on 1973-1977 A-body models.

6. INSTALLATION NOTES
- Read the control-arm manufacturer’s complete installation instructions before beginning work.
- Verify that the supplied 1/2-inch fasteners match the control arms, bushing sleeves, frame brackets, and axle brackets.
- Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface.
- Safely raise and support the vehicle with properly rated lifting equipment.
- Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack.
- Support the vehicle by the chassis while separately supporting the rear axle.
- The rear axle must remain controlled during control-arm removal.
- Replace one rear lower control arm at a time whenever possible.
- Leaving the opposite control arm installed helps maintain rear-axle position.
- Note the direction and orientation of the original bolts before removal.
- Inspect the frame-side and axle-side mounting brackets for cracks, corrosion, distortion, or elongated holes.
- Do not force a bolt through a misaligned control-arm bushing sleeve.
- Raise or lower the supported rear axle as necessary to align the mounting holes.
- Install the new bolts, washers, and nylon locking nuts loosely until both ends of the control arm are properly positioned.
- Make sure the bolt shanks pass completely through the mounting brackets and bushing sleeves.
- Verify full thread engagement through each nylon locking nut.
- Final tightening should be performed with the suspension positioned at normal ride height unless the control-arm manufacturer specifies another procedure.
- Tightening the pivot bolts with the rear suspension hanging may preload certain rubber or polyurethane bushings.
- Follow the torque specification supplied by the control-arm manufacturer or the appropriate vehicle service manual.
- UMI’s instructions for its #4015 rear lower control arms specify 72 ft-lb for the four pivot bolts in that particular installation.
- Do not treat 72 ft-lb as a universal specification for every factory or aftermarket control arm.
- Confirm that the rear axle moves through its intended range without binding.
- Check clearance around the exhaust, brake lines, parking-brake cables, shocks, driveshaft, sway bar, and surrounding chassis components.
- Reinspect the fasteners after the initial road test.
- Periodically inspect the control-arm bolts and mounting points as part of normal suspension maintenance.
