  • Hawks Motorsports is proud to offer our clients this : 1978-1988 GM G-Body Front Lower A-Arm Hardware Kit from UMI Performance.

    UMI Performance #3011 provides the high-strength fasteners needed to mount both front lower A-arms to the frame of compatible Buick Regal, Chevrolet El Camino, Malibu and Monte Carlo, GMC Caballero, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Bonneville and Grand Prix models.

    The kit contains four 12mm metric Grade 10.9 mounting bolts, eight flat washers and four nylon-insert locking nuts. Two pivot bolts are used for each front lower A-arm, providing the hardware required for both the driver- and passenger-side control arms.

    All supplied components feature a zinc-coated finish that helps resist corrosion while providing a clean, finished appearance.

    UMI-3011 is compatible with applicable UMI Performance lower A-arms, original GM lower control arms, factory-style replacements and other aftermarket lower A-arms designed around the factory 12mm mounting arrangement.

    This kit is ideal when installing new front lower A-arms or replacing original pivot fasteners that are rusted, seized, bent, worn, damaged or missing. It is suitable for factory restorations, suspension rebuilds, street-performance vehicles, Pro-Touring builds, autocross cars, road-course vehicles and compatible drag-racing applications.

    Important Position Information

    On the confirmed G-body applications, UMI-3011 installs at the front lower A-arm pivot locations where the lower control arms attach to the vehicle’s frame.

    UMI-3011 is not:

    UMI Performance #3012 is the corresponding front upper A-arm hardware kit for compatible G-body applications.

    UMI Performance #3001 is designed for the rear lower control arms, while #3002 supplies rear upper- and lower-control-arm hardware. These kits should not be confused with UMI-3011.

    5. MODEL INTERCHANGE AND FITMENT

    UMI Performance catalogs #3011 for the following rear-wheel-drive GM G-body models.

    Fitment is determined by the front lower A-arm and frame mounting arrangement. It is not normally affected by engine size, transmission type, brake configuration, body style or trim package when the vehicle retains the compatible factory mounting dimensions.

    Important Fitment Notes

    • UMI-3011 mounts the two front lower A-arms to the frame.
    • One kit services both front lower control arms.
    • Each lower A-arm uses two frame pivot bolts.
    • The supplied fasteners are 12mm metric Grade 10.9 bolts.
    • Confirm that the lower A-arm bushing sleeves accept the supplied 12mm fasteners.
    • Compatible with applicable factory and aftermarket front lower A-arms.
    • Confirm dimensions when using custom-fabricated or heavily modified control arms.
    • Inspect the frame mounting brackets and pivot holes before installation.
    • Cracked, distorted, corroded or elongated mounting holes must be properly repaired before installing new hardware.
    • Previous collision damage or frame repairs may affect fitment and front-end alignment.
    • Engine-swap frame components or modified mounting brackets may use different dimensions.
    • UMI-3011 does not mount the body to the frame.
    • UMI-3011 does not include upper A-arm hardware.
    • UMI-3011 does not include rear control-arm hardware.
    • UMI-3011 does not include ball-joint, shock, spring, steering or sway-bar hardware.
    • UMI Performance currently lists Pontiac G-body coverage as 1982-1986 Bonneville and 1978-1987 Grand Prix.
    • Pontiac LeMans and Pontiac Grand Am models are not included in UMI’s current published UMI-3011 fitment guide and should not be added without manufacturer confirmation.
    • Only rear-wheel-drive G-body versions of the listed models are covered.
    • Later front-wheel-drive vehicles using similar model names are not covered.

    6. INSTALLATION NOTES

    • Review the applicable GM service manual and lower-control-arm manufacturer’s instructions before installation.
    • Confirm that the vehicle is one of the listed rear-wheel-drive G-body applications.
    • Confirm that the lower A-arms require 12mm mounting fasteners.
    • Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface.
    • Chock the rear wheels before raising the front of the vehicle.
    • Safely raise and support the vehicle using properly rated lifting equipment.
    • Support the vehicle beneath approved frame lifting points.
    • Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack.
    • Front coil springs and coilover assemblies store substantial energy and can cause serious injury if improperly handled.
    • Safely unload and control the front suspension before removing a lower A-arm.
    • Remove the front wheel to provide safe access to the control-arm mounting locations.
    • Support the lower A-arm and spindle assembly during disassembly.
    • Follow the applicable procedure for disconnecting the sway-bar end link, shock, spring or coilover, steering linkage and lower ball joint.
    • Replacing one lower A-arm at a time can help preserve component orientation and provide an installation reference.
    • Record the direction and position of the original lower A-arm pivot bolts before removal.
    • Inspect the original fasteners for bending, damaged threads, corrosion or movement inside the mounting holes.
    • Inspect the frame brackets for cracking, corrosion, distortion or elongated holes.
    • Inspect the lower A-arm bushing sleeves before installing the supplied fasteners.
    • Confirm that the bushing sleeves and frame mounting holes accept the 12mm bolts.
    • Do not force a bolt through a misaligned bushing sleeve or damaged frame bracket.
    • Correct the component alignment before inserting the mounting bolts.
    • Apply bushing lubricant only when directed by the lower-control-arm manufacturer.
    • Position the lower A-arm in the frame and initially install the pivot hardware loosely.
    • Confirm that each bolt passes completely through the frame brackets and bushing sleeve.
    • Verify full thread engagement through each nylon-insert locking nut.
    • Do not position the nylon locking insert over an unthreaded portion of the bolt.
    • Do not install fasteners with damaged, contaminated or cross-threaded threads.
    • Follow the applicable service manual or lower-control-arm manufacturer’s tightening procedure.
    • UMI does not publish one universal torque specification for UMI-3011 across every compatible factory and aftermarket lower A-arm.
    • Do not select a torque specification based only on the bolt diameter or metric property class.
    • Rubber- and polyurethane-bushed lower A-arms may require final tightening with the suspension positioned at normal ride height.
    • Tightening certain bushed control arms while the suspension is hanging can create unwanted bushing preload.
    • Follow the control-arm manufacturer’s instructions when using Delrin, bearing or solid-pivot lower A-arms.
    • Reconnect the lower ball joint, steering linkage, spring or coilover, shock and sway-bar components according to the applicable instructions.
    • Confirm that castle nuts are secured with the correct cotter pins where required.
    • Turn the steering from lock to lock after installation.
    • Check clearance around the wheels, tires, brake hoses, steering linkage, sway bar, frame, springs, shocks and surrounding chassis components.
    • Verify that both lower A-arms move through their intended suspension travel without binding.
    • Complete a professional front-end alignment after removing or replacing either lower A-arm.
    • Reinspect the fasteners after the initial road test.
    • Periodically inspect the lower A-arm hardware and frame mounting points as part of normal suspension maintenance.
