UMI Performance #2634-B is a three-position adjustable rear sway bar engineered to reduce body roll, improve cornering response, and provide tunable rear roll stiffness for the second-generation GM F-body platform.
This performance rear sway bar fits applicable 1970-1981 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird models. Its adjustable design allows the rear suspension response to be tuned to complement the vehicle’s front sway bar, springs, shocks, tires, alignment, ride height, and intended use.
The #2634-B assembly uses a 3//4-inch solid sway bar with three adjustment positions. UMI publishes torsional-stiffness settings of 165, 222, and 315 lb/in, allowing the driver or chassis tuner to select a softer, intermediate, or firmer rear sway-bar setting.
A softer setting allows more independent rear-suspension movement and generally provides a more forgiving response. The firmer settings increase resistance to rear body roll and can help the vehicle rotate more readily during cornering. Final adjustment should be based on the vehicle’s complete suspension combination and handling balance.
Polyurethane end links and polyurethane bushing/clamshell assemblies provide a responsive connection while maintaining smoother and quieter operation than a race-oriented spherical rod-end arrangement. Chassis brackets are also included with the sway-bar assembly.
UMI #2634-B works with the vehicle’s applicable factory leaf-spring pad arrangement and is compatible with UMI #2628 rear leaf-spring traction bars.
The red powder-coated finish provides a durable, corrosion-resistant surface and the signature UMI Performance appearance. UMI manufactures its suspension components in the USA using North American-sourced materials.
Critical 1970-1973 Installation Information
The 1970-1973 frame rails do not have the later factory-style threaded mounting bosses required by this sway-bar system. UMI #2636 rear sway-bar mounting plates must be installed before #2634-R can be used.
Factory 1970-1973 Z28 and Trans Am models may have welded chassis brackets for certain original-style sway bars. UMI specifies that these original brackets must be removed and UMI #2636 mounting plates installed when fitting the #2634 or #2635 rear sway-bar systems.
UMI #2636 mounting plates require drilling and welding and are sold separately.
1974-1981 Installation Information
Applicable 1974-1981 frame rails have factory mounting bosses for the sway-bar chassis brackets. These mounting locations may be used when the threads and surrounding frame-rail areas are undamaged.
UMI #2636 mounting plates can also be used as repair plates on 1974-1981 vehicles with damaged factory threads or compromised mounting areas.

Important Fitment Notes
- This product is designed specifically for the rear suspension.

- Do not install one end link in a different adjustment position from the other.

- The vehicle’s front and rear suspension should be evaluated as a complete system.
- Springs, shocks, front sway bar, rear sway-bar setting, tires, alignment, ride height, and vehicle weight affect the resulting handling balance.
- Increasing rear sway-bar stiffness can change the vehicle’s understeer and oversteer characteristics.
- Verify adequate clearance around the rear axle, differential housing, exhaust system, brake lines, parking-brake cables, fuel lines, shocks, leaf springs, wheels, and tires.
- Exhaust-system modifications may be required when non-original pipes, mufflers, or tailpipes interfere with the sway-bar assembly.
- Previous collision damage or frame-rail repairs may affect mounting alignment.
- Severely rusted or structurally damaged frame rails must be properly repaired before installation.
- This application does not fit 1967-1969 first-generation Camaro or Firebird models.
- This application does not fit 1982-1992 third-generation Camaro or Firebird models.

1974-1981 Fitment Requirements
- Applicable 1974-1981 frame rails have mounting bosses for the sway-bar chassis brackets.
- The original threads and surrounding frame areas must be undamaged.
- Inspect the factory mounting areas for stripped threads, cracks, deformation, severe corrosion, or previous repairs.
- UMI #2636 can be used as a repair plate when the original mounting threads or surrounding areas are damaged.
- Do not attach the sway bar to structurally compromised frame rails.
6. INSTALLATION NOTES
- Review the instructions supplied with the product before beginning installation.
- Park the vehicle on a solid, level surface.
- Safely raise and support the vehicle using properly rated lifting equipment.
- Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack.
- Support the rear axle appropriately during installation.
- Inspect the frame rails, leaf-spring pads, axle area, and surrounding suspension components.
- Confirm whether the vehicle has the correct 1974-1981 factory mounting bosses or requires UMI #2636 plates.
- Complete any required structural repairs before installing the sway bar.
- On 1970-1973 vehicles, install UMI #2636 mounting plates before positioning the sway-bar assembly.
- On factory 1970-1973 Z28 and Trans Am models, follow UMI’s direction concerning removal of the original welded brackets.
- Center the sway bar from side to side before final tightening.
- Position the polyurethane bushings and clamshells according to UMI’s supplied instructions.
- Use a lubricant specifically approved for polyurethane suspension bushings where lubrication is specified.
- Make sure the chassis brackets and end links are positioned without side loading or binding.
- Select the same adjustment hole on the left and right sides.
- Never operate the vehicle with the end links installed in mismatched adjustment positions.
- Confirm that the sway-bar arms and end links move freely through the suspension’s expected range of travel.
- Inspect clearance around the axle housing, differential cover, shocks, leaf springs, brake lines, parking-brake cables, fuel lines, exhaust, wheels, and tires.
- Verify clearance with the suspension loaded at normal ride height.
- Confirm clearance through normal suspension compression and extension.
- Tighten all connections according to the specifications supplied by UMI Performance.
- Do not excessively compress the polyurethane end-link bushings.
- Recheck sway-bar position, bushing alignment, and clearances after the initial road test.
- Periodically inspect the system, especially on vehicles used for autocross, road-course, or competition driving.
- Evaluate handling changes in a controlled environment after changing adjustment positions.
- Make only one suspension adjustment at a time so its effect can be properly evaluated.
