UMI Performance rear sway-bar mounting plates provide secure threaded mounting locations for a bolt-on-style rear sway-bar chassis bracket. They are designed for early second-generation F-body vehicles that were not originally equipped with usable threaded sway-bar mounting bosses and for later vehicles with damaged factory threads or mounting areas.
Each plate is precision laser-cut from heavy-duty 3/16-inch mild steel and incorporates 3/8"-16 weld nuts. The kit includes two bare-steel plates for servicing both rear frame-rail mounting locations.
On 1970-1973 models without factory threaded rear sway-bar bosses, these plates add the necessary mounting points for a compatible rear sway-bar bracket. On 1974-1981 models, the factory frame rails normally contain threaded mounting bosses; UMI 2636 can be installed when those original threads or surrounding mounting areas are damaged.
These plates require drilling and welding and are not bolt-on components. Once installed, they allow compatible sway-bar chassis brackets to be bolted securely to the vehicle.

Important Fitment Notes
1970-1973 vehicles: Rear sway bars were not standard equipment, and many frame rails do not have threaded sway-bar mounting bosses. UMI 2636 must be installed when usable threaded mounting locations are not present.
Factory Z28 and Trans Am models may have welded chassis brackets. When installing UMI 2634 or 2635 rear sway bars, UMI specifies removing those original welded brackets and installing part #2636.
1974-1981 vehicles: These frame rails normally have factory mounting bosses for the sway-bar brackets. If the original bosses and threads are undamaged, they may be used with UMI 2634 and 2635 rear sway bars. UMI 2636 is intended as a repair plate when the factory threads or surrounding mounting area is damaged.
Installation Notes
- Drilling and welding are required.
- These mounting plates are not bolt-on components.
- Confirm the correct plate and sway-bar bracket locations before final welding.
- Factory welded brackets may require removal on certain early Z28 and Trans Am applications.
- Installation should be performed by someone experienced with structural automotive welding and chassis fabrication.
- The plates are supplied in bare steel and should receive suitable corrosion protection after installation and welding are completed.
- Rear sway bar and related sway-bar components are sold separately.
