UMI Performance 4066 is a premium front sway-bar package engineered to reduce body roll, improve steering response, and provide flatter, more controlled cornering during street driving, Pro-Touring events, autocross competition, and road-course use.
The fixed-rate sway bar measures 1-1/4 inches, or approximately 32mm, in diameter and is manufactured from solid 4140 chromoly steel. Each bar is CNC-bent for consistent geometry and proper alignment with the vehicle’s factory-style front sway-bar locations. UMI publishes a 530 lb/in deflection rating for this 1-1/4-inch bar design.
Unlike the standard stamped-steel frame-mount configuration, UMI 4066 includes heavy-duty billet-aluminum frame mounts. These precision-machined mounts help reduce bracket flex under the increased loads generated by a larger performance sway bar while also providing a clean, high-end appearance beneath the vehicle.
Greaseable polyurethane frame bushings and grease fittings provide positive sway-bar control while allowing routine lubrication. Polyurethane end-link assemblies connect the sway bar to the factory-style lower-control-arm locations.
The sway bar is offered in UMI red powder coat for long-lasting protection against corrosion and road exposure. The complete assembly is manufactured, tested, and raced in the USA.

Important Fitment Notes
- Designed for vehicles retaining factory-style front sway-bar frame mounting points and lower-control-arm end-link locations.
- This is a fixed-rate, non-adjustable sway bar.
- This application should not be confused with the 1967-1969 first-generation Camaro or Firebird.
- This application should not be confused with the later 1978-1988 GM G-body platform.
- The supplied end links are intended for most factory and reasonably modified ride heights.
- Many standard-spindle, tall-spindle, and tall-ball-joint combinations are compatible.
- Excessively raised or lowered vehicles may require different-length end links.
- End-link position and angle must be evaluated with the vehicle resting at normal ride height.
- The end links do not need to be perfectly vertical for the sway bar to operate properly.
- Engine swaps, aftermarket control arms, frame damage, frame sag, additional caster, or modified suspension geometry may affect clearance.
- Installing the sway bar upside down can create tie-rod clearance problems.
- Check clearance around the tie rods, idler arm, brake lines, control arms, oil pan, and surrounding components.
- UMI #3068 is available separately for applicable F-body installations requiring additional sway-bar-to-steering clearance.
- UMI #4068 is available separately for applicable A-body installations requiring additional idler-arm clearance.
- UMI #2649 swivel-style end links are available separately for customers seeking a higher-performance end-link arrangement.
6. INSTALLATION NOTES
- Installation uses the vehicle’s existing factory-style sway-bar locations.
- Safely raise the front of the vehicle and support the frame before beginning installation.
- Remove the original end links, frame bushings, brackets, and front sway bar.
- Clean rust, scale, and debris from the frame mounting areas.
- Confirm the correct sway-bar orientation before attaching the bar to the vehicle.
- When correctly installed at ride height, the ends of the sway bar should be approximately level.
- If the bar ends angle sharply upward, the bar may be installed upside down.
- Apply appropriate polyurethane-safe grease to the inside of the frame bushings and the corresponding sway-bar contact areas.
- Position the polyurethane bushings over the sway bar.
- Install the billet-aluminum frame mounts at the factory frame locations.
- Attach both end-link assemblies finger-tight before final tightening.
- Center the sway bar from side to side before securing the frame mounts.
- Lower the vehicle onto its tires or suitable supporting blocks before final end-link tightening.
- The vehicle’s weight should be resting on the suspension during final end-link tightening.
- End-link washers must cup toward the polyurethane bushings.
- Do not grease the polyurethane end-link bushings.
- Tighten the end links only until the bushings begin to bulge slightly.
- Do not overtighten the end-link bushings.
- If the supplied end links are too long, UMI permits shortening the center sleeves by up to 3/4 inch.
- Rotate the steering completely from side to side and inspect for interference.
- Check tie-rod, idler-arm, brake-line, control-arm, oil-pan, and sway-bar clearance before operating the vehicle.
- Rotate the sway bar after initial lubrication to distribute grease throughout the frame bushings.
- For periodic maintenance, UMI recommends approximately two to three full pumps of grease at each greaseable frame bushing.
- Having a second person assist with positioning the solid sway bar can simplify installation.
- Verify wheel alignment if the idler arm or steering-linkage position is changed during installation.
