Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following OER four-spoke simulated rope-grip steering-wheel kit for the 1978–1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.

This complete steering-wheel kit reproduces the distinctive four-spoke Sport steering wheel originally installed in 1978–1981 Camaro Z28 models. The black outer rim features the correct simulated rope-wrapped or ribbed gripping surface, giving the wheel its recognizable factory appearance and texture.

The kit includes the steering wheel, horn cap, horn-cap retainer and the components needed to mount the horn cap. The visible model-specific center emblem is not included, allowing the correct emblem to be selected separately according to the vehicle and trim level.

Although the rope-grip design is factory-correct for the 1978–1981 Camaro Z28, OER catalogs the assembly as a compatible custom upgrade for several additional Chevrolet and GMC models. Those additional applications should not be represented as factory-original rope-wheel installations.

OER 881352 replaces the discontinued OER 881355 rope-style steering-wheel kit.

Installation Notes

Select the correct center emblem before completing the installation. Z28 emblems changed in appearance during the applicable years, so the emblem should be matched to the vehicle’s model year and interior configuration.

Keep the steering column and front wheels centered while removing the original wheel. A steering-wheel puller may be required to remove the existing wheel safely.

For Corvette and other custom applications, verify the steering-column and horn-contact configuration before ordering. Physical compatibility does not necessarily make the wheel visually or historically correct for the vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OER 881352 the complete version of steering wheel 9761613?

Yes. The kit uses the rope-grip steering-wheel design sold separately as OER 9761613 and adds the horn cap, retainer and related cap-mounting components.

Is the Z28 emblem included?

No. The visible center emblem must be ordered separately.

Is this steering wheel correct for every 1971–1981 Camaro?

No. Its factory-correct application is the 1978–1981 Camaro Z28. It may physically fit additional compatible Camaro applications, but it should be described as a custom or appearance upgrade on those vehicles.

Is this the smooth NK4 steering-wheel kit?

No. OER 881352 has the simulated rope-grip surface. The smooth, padded leather-grain kit is OER 881346.

What is the difference between 881346 and 881352?

  • 881346: Smooth leather-grain four-spoke Sport steering-wheel kit
  • 881352: Simulated rope-grip four-spoke Z28-style steering-wheel kit

What diameter is the wheel?

The steering wheel measures approximately 14½ inches in diameter.

Can different center emblems be used?

Yes. The included horn cap accepts separately available center emblems. The emblem must be selected to match the intended Chevrolet model and trim.
