Product Description:
Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following 1978–1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 black four-spoke simulated rope-grip steering wheel from OER.
Designed to reproduce the distinctive sport steering wheel originally installed in 1978–1981 Camaro Z28 models, this wheel features the correct four-spoke configuration and simulated rope-wrapped outer grip. It provides an excellent replacement for an original steering wheel that has become sticky, cracked, worn, distorted or discolored with age.
The approximately 14½-inch-diameter wheel is manufactured to reproduce the original appearance and installs on compatible 1970–1981 Camaro steering columns. Although it may be used as a sport-wheel upgrade on other second-generation Camaro models, its factory-correct appearance applies specifically to the 1978–1981 Z28.
The steering wheel includes the preinstalled horn-cap mounting components identified by the supplier. The center horn cap, retainer, horn-contact components and model-specific emblem may be required separately depending on the installation and components already present on the vehicle.

Installation Notes
Confirm that the steering column, horn-cap configuration and related components are compatible before installation. Preserve the steering wheel’s straight-ahead position during removal and installation.
A steering-wheel puller may be required to remove the original wheel safely. The center horn cap and model-specific emblem are not part of the basic steering-wheel assembly and should be selected according to the vehicle’s trim level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this steering wheel factory-correct for every 1970–1981 Camaro?
No. The wheel can be installed on compatible 1970–1981 Camaro columns, but the rope-grip four-spoke design is factory-correct primarily for the 1978–1981 Camaro Z28.
What is the difference between 9761613 and 9761838?
OER markets this reproduction under part number 9761613. Competitor listings associate the wheel with original GM design or reference number 9761838. Both numbers should be retained as search references, but 9761613 is the verified OER product number.
What diameter is the steering wheel?
The reproduced wheel measures approximately 14½ inches in diameter. One retailer rounds the measurement to 15 inches, but the more specific OER-retailer specification is 14½ inches.
Does it include the horn button and emblem?
No. The center horn button/cap and model-specific emblem are not included with the basic wheel and must be selected separately.
Is this the complete steering-wheel kit?
No. This is primarily the steering-wheel assembly with preinstalled horn-cap mounting pieces. OER offers a separate complete-kit configuration containing additional center-cap components.
Will it replace a sticky original steering wheel?
Yes. Deteriorated factory wheels commonly develop a sticky or degraded outer surface. This reproduction provides a new rope-textured gripping surface and restores the original Z28-style appearance.
