Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following: new aftermarket molded rear cargo-area carpet for the 1982-1984 Chevrolet Camaro hatchback, ACC #2637.
Restore the rear hatch compartment of your third-generation Camaro with vehicle-specific cutpile carpet molded to follow the original cargo-floor contours. This replacement is intended for the rear trunk and hatch area only, making it suitable when the passenger-compartment carpet remains usable or will be replaced separately.
The carpet includes attached jute padding for additional cushioning and basic sound and thermal insulation. It is available in multiple early third-generation Camaro interior colors and is manufactured in the United States.
This listing does not include the carpet for the front and rear passenger floor. Separate passenger-area and complete carpet packages are available.
Although the carpet is pre-molded, it must be test-fitted and may require final trimming around the cargo-area perimeter and adjoining interior components. Confirm the complete position before making permanent cuts.
Please note as this carpet is pre-molded, it will need to be test fit and trimmed before final install. Read our manufacturer’s instruction recommendations HERE.

Important Fitment Requirements
- Fits 1982-1984 Chevrolet Camaro hatchback models
- Covers the rear trunk and hatch cargo-floor area
- Does not replace the passenger-compartment carpet
- Does not fit a later 1985-1992 Camaro cargo-floor configuration
- Does not depend on the vehicle’s center-console configuration
- Does not depend on automatic- or manual-transmission selection
- Test-fitting is required before final trimming
- Compare the replacement carpet with the original cargo carpet
- Check the shape of the cargo floor and adjoining interior trim before installation
- Modified cargo floors or custom audio installations may require additional fitting
Rear Hatch Cargo-Area Coverage
ACC #2637 is molded for the rear cargo-floor section of the 1982-1984 Camaro hatchback.
This section is separate from the passenger-compartment carpet covering the footwells, transmission tunnel and seating area.
Rear cargo carpet is suitable for replacing carpet that has been affected by:
- Ultraviolet fading through the hatch glass
- Cargo-related stains
- Tears and worn edges
- Water intrusion
- Sun-baked or brittle fibers
- Previous audio-system installations
- Missing or damaged original carpet
- Interior color changes
The molded construction follows the cargo-floor contours more closely than a flat piece of universal carpet.
Cargo Carpet Versus Passenger-Area Carpet
The third-generation Camaro uses separate carpet sections for the passenger floor and rear hatch cargo area.
Rear Cargo-Area Carpet — ACC #2637
This listing replaces the molded rear hatch cargo-floor carpet.
It does not cover:
- Driver-side footwell
- Passenger-side footwell
- Transmission tunnel
- Front-seat floor
- Rear passenger floor
Passenger-Area Carpet
The corresponding 1982-1984 passenger-floor carpet is available separately:
- ACC #2636: Passenger-area carpet with console cutout
- ACC #2638: Passenger-area carpet without console cutout
The center-console distinction applies to the passenger-area carpet and does not change ACC #2637 rear cargo carpet.
Cargo Carpet Versus Complete Carpet Set
Choose ACC #2637 when only the rear cargo-area carpet requires replacement.
For a complete restoration of both the passenger compartment and rear hatch area, use the corresponding complete set:
- ACC #8283: Complete carpet set with console cutout
- ACC #8284: Complete carpet set without console cutout
The complete sets combine the appropriate passenger-area carpet with the molded rear cargo carpet.
Purchasing a complete set can help maintain consistent carpet color and texture when every carpeted floor section requires replacement. ACC #2637 remains the appropriate choice when the passenger-floor carpet is already serviceable.
Molded Cutpile Construction
This carpet uses cutpile material molded to follow the rear cargo-floor contours.
Cutpile carpet provides:
- A factory-style third-generation Camaro appearance
- A soft, uniform surface
- Defined molded cargo-floor contours
- Improved appearance compared with flat universal carpet
- Compatibility with factory-style rear interior trim
The product should not be described as a flat roll of carpet or a universal trim-to-shape cargo mat. It is a molded vehicle-specific replacement.
Attached Jute Padding
Jute insulation padding is attached to the underside of the carpet.
The padding provides:
- Cushioning between the carpet and cargo floor
- Basic sound absorption
- Basic thermal insulation
- Support for the molded carpet contours
- Separation between the carpet and metal floor surface
The current Hawks product page provides a color selection but does not display a separate mass-backing or loose-padding selection for this cargo-only listing.
Available Colors
Current Hawks Motorsports selections include:
- Black
- Dark Blue
- Briar Brown
- Blue
- Jadestone
- Silver
- Charcoal
- Doeskin
Interior materials can fade, discolor or be replaced during a vehicle’s service life. Cargo carpet is especially vulnerable to ultraviolet exposure through the large rear hatch glass.
Screen settings and lighting can also change the apparent color. Select the carpet according to the vehicle’s current interior and complete restoration plan rather than relying solely on the appearance of faded original carpet.

Restores the Rear Hatch Compartment
The Camaro hatch area is exposed to heat and ultraviolet light through the large rear glass. Cargo use, water leaks and previous modifications can also damage the original carpet.
ACC #2637 is suitable for:
- Replacing faded rear cargo carpet
- Replacing stained or water-damaged carpet
- Correcting torn cargo-floor carpet
- Replacing carpet cut for previous audio equipment
- Completing a rear cargo-floor repair
- Restoring a Camaro Sport Coupe
- Restoring a Camaro Berlinetta
- Restoring a Camaro Z28
- Restoring a 1982 Indianapolis Pace Car
- Completing an interior color change
- Refreshing a street-driven Camaro
- Completing a restoration or restomod interior
A properly fitted molded carpet helps return the hatch area to a cleaner, more complete factory-style appearance.
Installation Preparation
Remove the applicable rear interior components carefully. Retain the original cargo carpet until the replacement has been completely test-fitted.
After removing the old carpet:
- Inspect the cargo floor for rust and previous repairs.
- Check the hatch opening and weather sealing for water intrusion.
- Inspect the rear body seams and drain areas.
- Clean and dry the cargo floor.
- Remove loose dirt and deteriorated padding.
- Inspect wiring routed through the cargo compartment.
- Compare the replacement carpet with the original.
- Identify the molded contours and carpet centerline.
- Allow the carpet to relax in a warm, clean area.
- Test-fit the carpet before making any cuts.
Water leaks should be corrected before installing new carpet. Moisture trapped beneath the carpet can damage the padding and contribute to corrosion.
Installation Notes
Begin by centering the molded carpet over the rear cargo floor.
Work outward gradually while checking the relationship between the carpet and the surrounding hatch-area trim.
Recommended installation sequence:
- Position the carpet over the main cargo-floor contours.
- Confirm the front-to-rear orientation.
- Align the center of the molded section.
- Check the carpet against both side panels.
- Verify the forward edge near the rear seating area.
- Check the rear edge near the hatch opening.
- Confirm coverage beneath adjoining trim.
- Trim the outer edges only as necessary.
- Make small cuts and check the fit frequently.
- Temporarily position adjoining trim before completing installation.
- Confirm that the carpet lies flat without excessive tension.
- Complete final trimming only after the entire piece is aligned.
Do not assume that every outer edge is ready for installation as received. Replacement carpet may include excess material to accommodate vehicle and installation variations.
Once the carpet has been cut, trimmed or otherwise modified, it may not qualify for return under the seller’s current return policy.
Care and Cleaning
Vacuum the cargo carpet regularly using an upholstery attachment. Remove loose dirt before it becomes embedded in the fibers.
For spot cleaning:
- Use a cleaner approved for automotive carpet
- Test the cleaner in an inconspicuous location
- Blot spills instead of aggressively scrubbing
- Avoid saturating the carpet and jute
- Allow the carpet to dry completely
- Correct hatch or weatherstrip leaks promptly
Avoid bleach, harsh solvents and stiff wire brushes. Do not place wet cargo on the carpet for extended periods.
