Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports offers our clients this 1970-1973 Firebird / Trans Am Sandalwood Premier Perforated Vinyl 5-Bow Headliner with Sun Visor Material, Acme 70-1513-PRP1180.

This replacement headliner is designed for 1970-1973 Pontiac Firebird, Esprit, Formula and Trans Am models equipped with the original suspended five-bow headliner system. It is tailored and pre-sewn using an original factory-style roof pattern and manufactured from Sandalwood Premier Perforated Vinyl.

The sewn listings on the back of the headliner accept the vehicle’s original five metal support bows. Before removing the old headliner, each bow should be identified according to its front-to-rear position and transferred into the corresponding listing of the replacement headliner. The five metal bows are not included.

Matching loose Sandalwood Premier Perforated Vinyl material is included for recovering the vehicle’s original sun visors. This is unfinished covering material and does not include completed sun visors, replacement visor cores, brackets, support rods or mounting hardware. Acme’s current product documentation confirms that matching material yardage is supplied for sun-visor recovering.

Acme manufactures this headliner using reproduced factory-style materials to maintain the original look, texture and overall fit. PRP1180 is specifically identified as Sandalwood Premier Perforated Vinyl.

This is a tailored, pre-sewn suspended headliner. It is not loose material by the yard, foam-backed board material, a molded ABS headliner board or a board-to-bow conversion kit.

Acme’s official catalog groups the 70-1513-34P Sandalwood headliner with 1970-1973 applications, while the expanded 70-1513-PRP1180 distributor record specifically identifies the 1970 five-bow Firebird pattern. Hawks should therefore retain the 1970-1973 listing range while requiring customers to verify the original five-bow configuration.

FITMENT WARNINGS

Verify five bows before ordering: This product fits vehicles equipped with the original suspended five-bow headliner system. Count the bows and inspect the roof mounting points before removing the existing headliner.

1973 production variation: Early 1973 Firebird and Trans Am models may retain the bow-style sewn headliner, while later-production cars changed to a one-piece board-style headliner. This product does not fit the later board-style configuration.

Bows are not included: The vehicle must retain five usable original headliner bows or a compatible replacement bow set must be obtained separately.

Sun visor material is unfinished: Matching material is included for recovering the original visor cores. Ready-to-install sun visors are not included.

Color control: Sandalwood is distinct from Brown, Saddle, Buckskin, Camel Tan and Light Saddle. Acme recommends comparing a physical material sample when exact color matching is important because monitor and lighting differences can affect the displayed shade.

INSTALLATION NOTES

Before removing the original headliner, number each of the five bows according to its position from front to rear. Bow lengths and contours may differ, so each bow should return to its original location.

Remove the sun visors, visor brackets, dome-light assembly, coat hooks, windlace and surrounding roof trim as required to release the old headliner. Preserve all reusable original trim and mounting hardware.

Carefully remove the bows from the original headliner and insert them through the corresponding sewn listings in the replacement headliner. Do not interchange the bows or force them through the sleeves.

Position the headliner inside the vehicle and establish the front-to-rear and side-to-side centerlines. Suspend all five bows before permanently securing the perimeter.

Stretch and secure the material gradually, working outward from the center and alternating between opposite sides. Pulling one side completely tight before adjusting the other can create diagonal wrinkles or shift the headliner off-center.

Do not trim the excess perimeter material until the headliner is centered, evenly tensioned and checked for correct bow placement. Cut openings for the dome light, visor brackets, coat hooks and related accessories only after final positioning.

Use the included matching material to recover the original sun-visor cores. Recovering the visors may require cutting, sewing, edge binding and automotive upholstery equipment.

Windlace is not included and must be reused or purchased separately. Professional installation is recommended for correct bow sequencing, stretching and final trimming.
