Product Description:

Hawks Motorsports offers our clients this 1970-1973 Firebird Esprit Formula Trans Am Brown Premier Perforated Vinyl 5-Bow Headliner with Sun Visor Material, Acme 70-1513-PRP1185.

This replacement headliner is tailored for 1970, 1971, 1972 and early-production 1973 Pontiac Firebird models equipped with the original suspended five-bow headliner system. It is manufactured from Brown Premier Perforated Vinyl and sewn to an original-style roof pattern for proper positioning, fit and tension across the interior roof.

The sewn listings on the back of the headliner accept the vehicle’s original five metal support bows. The original bows must be removed from the old headliner, marked according to their front-to-rear positions and transferred into the corresponding sleeves of the new headliner. Replacement bows are not included.

Matching loose Brown Premier Perforated Vinyl material is included for recovering the vehicle’s original sun visors. This additional material is unfinished covering yardage. It does not include assembled sun visors, replacement visor cores, brackets or mounting hardware.

A centerline is marked on the back of the headliner to assist with alignment, and approximately three inches of extra material is provided around the perimeter for stretching and final trimming during installation.

This is a tailored, pre-sewn bow-style headliner. It is not loose material by the yard, foam-backed headliner-board material, an ABS headliner board or a board-to-bow conversion kit.

Premier Perforated Vinyl is intended for deluxe-style interior applications. Brown is available within the 1970-1973 headliner family, but customers seeking strict factory originality should verify the vehicle’s original trim code and production year before ordering.

Fitment Warnings

Verify five bows before ordering: This headliner fits vehicles equipped with the original five-bow suspended system. Count the existing bows and inspect the roof attachment points before removing the original headliner.

1973 production change: Only early-production 1973 models retained the sewn bow-style headliner. Later 1973 vehicles changed to a one-piece hardboard headliner. This product will not fit the one-piece board-style configuration.

Bows are not included: The vehicle’s original five metal bows must be reused or a compatible replacement bow set must be purchased separately.

Extra material is unfinished: The included visor and sail-panel material requires cutting, sewing, wrapping or upholstery work. Finished ready-to-install components are not included.

Factory color note: Brown is offered in the Acme 1970-1973 product family, but factory-correct color usage may differ by year and interior trim package. Verify the vehicle’s trim code when originality is important.

INSTALLATION NOTES

Before removing the original headliner, label each of the five bows according to its front-to-rear position. Bow length, contour and mounting location may differ, so each bow should be returned to its original position.

Remove the sun visors, visor brackets, dome-light assembly, coat hooks, windlace and surrounding roof trim as required to release the old headliner. Preserve all reusable original hardware and trim pieces.

Carefully remove the five bows from the original headliner and slide them through the corresponding sewn listings in the replacement headliner. Do not interchange the bows or force them through the material.

Use the marked centerline to align the new headliner with the center of the roof. Suspend all five bows before permanently securing the front, rear and side edges.

Stretch and secure the material gradually, working outward from the center and alternating between opposite sides. Do not pull one side completely tight before adjusting the other side.

Do not trim the excess perimeter material until the headliner is centered, evenly tensioned and checked for wrinkles. Cut openings for the dome light, sun visor brackets and coat hooks only after the final position has been established.

Use the included matching material to recover the original sun-visor cores and sail panels where applicable. Sun visor recovering may require sewing, edge binding and automotive upholstery equipment.

Professional installation is recommended. Electronic displays, photography lighting, aged original components and production dye-lot variation may affect the perceived shade. Compare a physical PRP1185 Brown material sample when an exact match is required.
