Important Fitment Requirements
- Fits 1985-1992 Chevrolet Camaro models
- Covers the passenger compartment only
- Fits applicable hatchback and convertible models
- Does not include rear hatch cargo-area carpet
- Does not include convertible-specific rear-area carpet
- Select the correct center-console configuration
- ACC #2152 is for the with-console configuration
- ACC #2154 is for the without-console configuration
- Final trimming is required
- Seat, seat-belt and shifter openings must be located during installation
- Automatic- and manual-transmission vehicles require different final shifter-opening preparation
- Modified transmission tunnels or custom interiors may require additional fitting
- Compare the replacement carpet with the original before making permanent cuts
Passenger-Area Coverage
This carpet replaces the main floor covering inside the passenger compartment, including the following general areas:
- Driver-side footwell
- Passenger-side footwell
- Transmission tunnel
- Front-seat floor area
- Rear passenger floor area
- Seat-riser contours
This passenger-area carpet can be used in applicable hatchback and convertible models because it does not include the body-style-specific rear cargo or convertible rear carpet.
Choose passenger-area-only carpet when:
- The existing hatch cargo carpet remains serviceable
- The convertible rear carpet remains serviceable
- Only the passenger-compartment carpet is damaged
- The rear interior will be restored separately
- A custom rear-area treatment is planned
- The passenger and rear areas require different installation schedules
Hatchback and Convertible Applications
The passenger-floor carpet is cataloged for applicable 1985-1992 Camaro models, including 1987-1992 convertibles.
Body-style differences become important behind the passenger compartment:
- Hatchback models use molded rear hatch cargo-area carpet.
- Convertible models use a body-style-specific rear carpet configuration.
- Neither rear-area configuration is included with this passenger-area-only carpet.
Customers restoring a hatchback can purchase the rear cargo carpet separately or select the corresponding complete passenger-and-cargo carpet set.
Customers restoring a convertible should use the appropriate convertible rear carpet when that portion of the interior also requires replacement.
With or Without Center-Console Cutout
Two configurations are available because the carpet preparation differs according to whether the vehicle uses the factory-style center console.
ACC #2152 — With Console Cutout
Choose ACC #2152 for a Camaro equipped with the corresponding factory-style center console.
This carpet is manufactured with the console area configured for that application. Final fitting may still be necessary around the shifter, console edges and adjoining interior panels.
The with-console configuration is appropriate for applicable Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, LT, Z28, IROC-Z and RS interiors retaining a compatible factory-style console.
ACC #2154 — Without Console Cutout
Choose ACC #2154 when the Camaro does not use the factory center console or when an uncut console area is required for a custom interior.
This version allows the installer to prepare the carpet according to the vehicle’s final shifter and interior arrangement.
Select the carpet according to the vehicle’s current configuration rather than relying only on how it was originally equipped. A modified Camaro may no longer match its factory console arrangement.
Standard Lightweight Poly Backing
The standard carpet configuration uses lightweight poly backing with jute padding.
Standard backing provides:
- Molded floor-pan contours
- A lighter carpet assembly
- Basic thermal insulation
- Basic sound absorption
- Padding between the carpet and floor pan
- Easier handling during test-fitting
- A factory-style replacement approach
This configuration is suitable for restorations where standard construction, reduced weight or a lower initial cost is preferred.
Optional 45-Mil EVA Mass Backing
Optional mass backing adds a 45-mil layer of ethylene-vinyl acetate, commonly abbreviated EVA, to the molded carpet.
Potential advantages include:
- Additional road-noise reduction
- Greater thermal insulation
- Increased carpet weight
- Improved shape retention
- More defined molded contours
- A more substantial feel
- Easier positioning during some installations
Mass backing is not ordinary rubber padding. ACC identifies its mass-backing material as EVA.
Mass-backed carpet still requires careful test-fitting and final trimming. The upgrade also does not replace every form of vehicle insulation or sound-control material. Interior noise and heat are affected by the floor pan, exhaust system, drivetrain, weather sealing and other vehicle components.
Attached or Loose Jute Padding
Jute insulation padding is included with the carpet. The standard configuration uses jute attached to the appropriate areas on the back of the carpet.
A loose-padding option is also available. With this selection, the jute is supplied separately so it can be positioned against the floor pan before the carpet is installed.
Loose padding allows the installer to:
- Position the jute directly against the floor
- Adjust padding placement around floor contours
- Trim the padding separately
- Work around existing insulation
- Fine-tune the molded carpet position
- Avoid unnecessary padding beneath selected components
When installing loose padding, shape and position the jute first. Test-fit the molded carpet over it before making permanent openings or edge cuts.
Available Colors
Current Hawks Motorsports selections include:
- Black
- Oxblood
- Flame Red
- Carmine
- Maroon
- Dove Gray
- Medium Beige
- Medium Doeskin
- Cognac
- Almond
Interior carpet and trim can fade, discolor or be replaced during a vehicle’s service life. Screen settings and lighting can also affect how a color appears online.
Select the carpet color according to the vehicle’s current interior and complete restoration plan rather than relying solely on the model year or the appearance of faded original material.

Passenger-Area Carpet Versus Complete Carpet Set
This product should not be confused with the complete 1985-1992 Camaro hatchback carpet set.
Passenger-Area Carpet
ACC #2152 and #2154 replace the carpet beneath the dashboard, seats and rear passenger floor. They do not include rear hatch cargo carpet.
Complete Hatchback Carpet Set
ACC #8285 and #8286 combine the passenger-area carpet with molded rear hatch cargo-area carpet.
The corresponding complete-set configurations are:
- ACC #8285: Complete hatchback set with console cutout
- ACC #8286: Complete hatchback set without console cutout
The complete ACC #8285 and #8286 sets are intended for hatchback interiors because they contain molded hatch cargo carpet. Convertible projects require body-style-specific rear carpet.
Automatic- and Manual-Transmission Applications
The molded passenger-area carpet can be used with automatic- and manual-transmission applications when properly fitted and trimmed.
For an automatic-transmission Camaro:
- Verify the automatic shifter location
- Confirm the center-console configuration
- Position the carpet before opening the shifter area
- Check clearance around the shifter and console
- Confirm that the gear selector moves freely
For a manual-transmission Camaro:
- Verify the transmission-tunnel and shifter location
- Locate the shift-lever opening from inside the vehicle
- Make a small starter opening
- Increase the opening gradually
- Confirm clearance for the shift boot and retainer
- Move the shifter through each gear before completing installation
Modified transmission tunnels, aftermarket shifters and transmission conversions may require additional preparation. The molded carpet does not position or correct an improperly located shifter.
Restores the Passenger Compartment
Original third-generation Camaro carpet frequently shows the greatest deterioration in the driver-side footwell, beneath the seats and around the transmission tunnel.
This passenger-area carpet is suitable for:
- Replacing faded original carpet
- Replacing stained or water-damaged carpet
- Correcting worn driver-side footwell carpet
- Replacing carpet damaged during floor-pan repairs
- Completing an interior color change
- Restoring a Camaro Sport Coupe
- Restoring a Camaro Berlinetta or LT
- Restoring a Camaro IROC-Z
- Restoring a Camaro RS or Z28
- Refreshing a Camaro convertible interior
- Refreshing a street-driven Camaro
- Completing a restoration or restomod interior
Replacing the main molded floor carpet also provides access for inspecting the floor pan, wiring and existing insulation.
Installation Preparation
Remove the seats, console and applicable interior trim carefully. Retain the original carpet until the replacement has been completely test-fitted.
After removing the original carpet:
- Inspect the floor pan for rust and previous repairs.
- Identify and correct water leaks.
- Clean and dry the floor pan.
- Inspect the existing insulation.
- Check wiring routed beneath the carpet.
- Compare the replacement carpet with the original.
- Identify the carpet centerline and molded contours.
- Allow the carpet to relax in a warm, clean area.
- Position the jute according to the selected padding configuration.
- Test-fit the carpet before making any cuts.
Replacement carpet commonly contains excess material around its outer edges. Do not trim the full perimeter before confirming how the console, sill plates and interior trim overlap the carpet.
Installation Notes
Begin by centering the carpet over the transmission tunnel and aligning the molded seat-riser and footwell contours.
Work outward gradually while checking both sides of the vehicle.
Recommended installation sequence:
- Align the transmission-tunnel contour.
- Position the front footwells.
- Confirm the seat-riser alignment.
- Check the rear passenger floor.
- Verify the console configuration.
- Locate the shifter opening.
- Make small starter openings.
- Locate seat and seat-belt positions individually.
- Trim the outer edges gradually.
- Temporarily position the adjoining trim.
- Confirm complete edge coverage.
- Complete final cuts only after the carpet is properly centered.
Pre-molded carpet normally requires fitting because floor repairs, added insulation, production tolerances and previous interior modifications can change the final installation.
Once the carpet has been cut or otherwise modified, it may not qualify for return under the seller’s current return policy.
Care and Cleaning
Vacuum the carpet regularly with an upholstery attachment. Removing loose dirt helps prevent abrasive particles from becoming embedded in the fibers.
For spot cleaning:
- Use an automotive carpet cleaner
- Test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area
- Blot spills instead of aggressively scrubbing
- Avoid saturating the carpet and padding
- Allow the carpet to dry completely
- Correct water leaks before reinstalling damp components
Avoid bleach, harsh solvents and stiff wire brushes. Moisture trapped beneath the carpet can damage the padding and contribute to floor-pan corrosion.
