Product Description:
Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following: new aftermarket complete molded carpet set for the 1985-1992 Chevrolet Camaro hatchback, available with or without the factory center-console cutout.
Restore the passenger compartment and rear hatch area of your third-generation Camaro with a complete vehicle-specific carpet package. Unlike passenger-area-only replacement carpet, this set includes molded carpet for the main floor and the rear hatch cargo area.
The cutpile carpet is heat- and pressure-molded to follow the Camaro floor-pan contours. Standard construction includes lightweight poly backing and jute padding. Optional 45-mil EVA mass backing is available for additional sound control, thermal insulation and greater shape retention.
Choose the configuration that matches the vehicle’s interior:
- ACC #8285: With center-console cutout
- ACC #8286: Without center-console cutout
The carpet is pre-molded but not completely ready to install out of the box. Test-fitting and final trimming are required for the vehicle’s edges, seat mounts, shifter opening, seat-belt locations and other interior components.
NOTE: “Please note as this carpet is pre-molded, it will need to be test fit and trimmed before final install. Read our manufacturer’s instruction recommendations HERE.

Hatchback Versus Convertible Applications
This complete carpet set includes the rear cargo-area carpet used in the Camaro hatchback. It should be ordered for 1985-1992 Camaro hatchback models, including solid-roof and T-top vehicles.
The 1987-1992 Camaro convertible uses a different rear interior and requires a body-style-specific carpet set. The molded hatch cargo section included with ACC #8285 and #8286 is not designed for the convertible configuration.
Confirm the vehicle’s body style before ordering.
With or Without Center-Console Cutout
Two carpet configurations are available.
ACC #8285 — With Console Cutout
Choose ACC #8285 when the Camaro uses the corresponding factory-style center console. The carpet is manufactured with the console area configured for that application.
The console opening does not eliminate the need for installation fitting. Final trimming and alignment may still be necessary around the console, shifter and adjoining interior panels.
ACC #8286 — Without Console Cutout
Choose ACC #8286 when the Camaro does not use the factory-style center console or when an uncut console area is required for a custom interior configuration.
This version allows the installer to determine the necessary openings according to the vehicle’s final interior layout.
Select the carpet configuration according to the vehicle’s current interior—not solely according to how it was originally equipped. Modified vehicles may no longer match their factory console configuration.
Standard Poly Backing
The standard carpet configuration uses lightweight poly backing with jute padding.
This construction provides:
- Molded floor-pan contours
- A lighter overall carpet assembly
- Basic thermal and sound insulation
- Padding between the carpet and floor pan
- A factory-style replacement approach
- Easier handling during test-fitting and trimming
The standard configuration is suitable for restoration projects where reduced weight, factory-style construction or a lower initial cost is preferred.
Optional EVA Mass Backing
Optional mass backing adds a 45-mil layer of ethylene-vinyl acetate, commonly abbreviated EVA, to the molded carpet.
Mass backing can provide:
- Additional road-noise reduction
- Greater thermal insulation
- Increased carpet weight
- Improved shape retention
- More defined molded contours
- A more substantial feel beneath the carpet
- Easier positioning during some installations
Mass backing does not replace every form of vehicle insulation or sound-deadening material. Results depend on the condition of the floor pan, sealing, exhaust system, drivetrain, tires and other vehicle components.
The mass-backed carpet remains a molded replacement component and still requires careful test-fitting and final trimming.
Attached or Loose Jute Padding
The standard carpet configuration uses jute padding attached to the back of the carpet in the appropriate areas.
A loose-padding option is also available. With that configuration, the jute is supplied separately rather than attached to the carpet.
Loose padding allows the installer to:
- Position the jute directly against the floor pan
- Adjust padding placement around floor contours
- Work around existing insulation or sound-control materials
- Trim the padding separately from the carpet
- Fine-tune the finished fit before securing the carpet
When using loose padding, install and shape the jute first. Test-fit the molded carpet over it before making final cuts.
Available Colors
Current Hawks Motorsports selections include:
- Black
- Oxblood
- Flame Red
- Carmine
- Maroon
- Dove Gray
- Medium Beige
- Medium Doeskin
Color names describe the manufacturer’s available carpet selections. Interior materials can fade or change appearance over time, and screen settings can alter the way a color is displayed online. Compare the selected color with the vehicle’s complete restoration plan before placing the order.

The exact number and shape of the carpet sections depend on the selected configuration and manufacturing layout.
Complete Set Versus Passenger-Area Carpet
This product is a complete carpet set covering both the passenger compartment and the rear hatch cargo area.
Some replacement carpet listings include only the main floor section beneath the seats and footwells. Those passenger-area-only products do not replace the carpet in the rear cargo compartment.
Choose this complete set when restoring:
- Front footwells
- Transmission tunnel
- Front-seat floor area
- Rear-seat floor area
- Rear hatch cargo area
- The overall carpet appearance throughout the hatchback interior
Automatic- and Manual-Transmission Applications
The molded floor shape can be used with automatic- and manual-transmission Camaro applications, but the shifter area must be prepared according to the vehicle’s configuration.
For an automatic-transmission Camaro:
- Verify the shifter location
- Confirm the center-console configuration
- Locate the necessary shifter opening
- Check clearance around the shifter assembly and console
For a manual-transmission Camaro:
- Verify the transmission-tunnel and shifter location
- Position the carpet before cutting the shift-lever opening
- Confirm adequate clearance for the shift boot and retaining components
- Check all gear positions before completing the installation
Modified transmission tunnels, aftermarket shifters and transmission conversions may require additional fitting. The molded carpet does not determine or correct the drivetrain’s shifter position.
Restores the Complete Hatchback Interior
Original Camaro carpet can become faded, stained, worn, torn or brittle after decades of use. Damage is frequently most visible around the pedals, seat tracks, transmission tunnel and rear cargo area.
A complete molded carpet set is suitable for:
- Replacing faded original carpet
- Replacing stained or water-damaged carpet
- Correcting torn driver-side footwell carpet
- Restoring the rear hatch cargo area
- Completing an IROC-Z interior restoration
- Completing an RS or Z28 interior restoration
- Finishing a floor-pan repair
- Completing an interior color change
- Refreshing a street-driven Camaro
- Finishing a show, restoration or restomod project
Replacing the passenger and cargo carpet together also helps maintain a more consistent color and texture throughout the interior.
Installation Preparation
Remove the seats, console and applicable interior trim carefully. Retain the original carpet until the replacement has been completely test-fitted.
After removing the old carpet:
- Inspect the floor pan for rust, moisture and previous repairs.
- Correct water leaks before installing the new carpet.
- Clean and dry the floor pan.
- Inspect existing insulation and sound-control materials.
- Repair loose wiring or damaged clips beneath the carpet.
- Compare the replacement sections with the original carpet.
- Identify the front, rear and centerline of each section.
- Allow the carpet to relax in a warm, clean area before fitting.
- Position the padding according to the selected configuration.
- Test-fit the carpet before making openings or edge cuts.
Do not use the worn or stretched outer edges of the original carpet as the only trimming guide. Interior trim panels often conceal a portion of the carpet perimeter.
Installation Notes
Begin with the carpet centered over the transmission tunnel and molded floor contours.
Work outward gradually while confirming that the molded features align with the floor pan. Avoid permanently cutting one side before checking the position of the opposite side.
During installation:
- Align the carpet with the transmission tunnel.
- Verify the front footwell contours.
- Confirm the rear floor and seat-area alignment.
- Position the rear cargo carpet.
- Check the selected console configuration.
- Locate the shifter opening from inside the vehicle.
- Make small starter openings rather than full-size cuts.
- Locate seat and seat-belt positions individually.
- Trim the outer edges gradually.
- Reinstall the adjoining trim temporarily to verify coverage.
- Confirm that the carpet lies flat without excessive tension.
- Complete final cuts only after the entire set is correctly positioned.
Pre-molded carpet normally requires fitting because vehicle construction tolerances, floor repairs, added insulation and previous interior modifications can affect the final installation.
Once carpet has been cut or otherwise modified, it may not qualify for return under the seller’s current return policy.
Care and Cleaning
Vacuum the carpet regularly using an upholstery attachment. Remove loose dirt from high-wear areas before it becomes embedded in the fibers.
For spot cleaning:
- Use a cleaner approved for automotive carpet
- Test the cleaner in an inconspicuous location
- Avoid saturating the carpet or padding
- Blot spills instead of aggressively scrubbing
- Allow the carpet and padding to dry completely
- Correct any water leak before reinstalling damp interior components
Avoid harsh solvents, bleach and stiff wire brushes. Excessive moisture trapped beneath the carpet can damage padding and contribute to floor-pan corrosion.
