Product Description:
Hawks Motorsports is pleased to offer our clients the following Roto-Fab cold air intake system for the 2016-2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine.
This listing allows the customer to select either Roto-Fab part #1016-1048 with a pre-oiled air filter or part #1016-1049 with a dry air filter. Both configurations retain the Camaro’s factory sound-enhancement tube.
Roto-Fab designed this system to improve airflow, produce a more aggressive induction sound and provide a clean performance appearance inside the engine compartment. It operates with the factory engine calibration and does not require tuning when installed on an otherwise compatible application.
The system uses a large open-top air box and oversized air filter while maintaining a barrier between the filter and engine-compartment heat. When the hood is closed, the top of the air box seals against the hood to create a large enclosed intake area without requiring a separate air-box lid.
Choose the Correct Filter Version
| Roto-Fab part number | Filter type | Replacement filter | Sound tube |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1016-1048 | Pre-oiled filter | 1013-5013 | Retains factory sound tube |
| 1016-1049 | Dry filter | 1013-5014 | Retains factory sound tube |
Part #1016-1048: Pre-Oiled Filter
Part #1016-1048 includes Roto-Fab’s pre-oiled performance filter. It arrives pre-oiled and ready for installation.
When servicing the filter, Roto-Fab specifies 89 grams of filter oil. Applying too much oil can reduce filter performance, so the manufacturer’s current cleaning and oiling instructions should be followed carefully.
The replacement oiled filter is Roto-Fab part #1013-5013.
Part #1016-1049: Dry Filter
Part #1016-1049 includes Roto-Fab’s dry performance filter. The dry filter does not require filter oil, making it a good choice for owners who prefer simplified filter maintenance.
The replacement dry filter is Roto-Fab part #1013-5014.
Custom-Molded Air Box and Intake Duct
Roto-Fab uses the available space inside the Camaro’s engine compartment to provide a large air-box volume and an oversized filter. The molded ductwork is shaped specifically for the sixth-generation Camaro SS application.
The molded intake components provide proper airflow alignment while retaining the original mass-airflow sensor. The black inlet elbow, high-gloss silicone connections and black air-box finish create a clean performance appearance under the hood.
Retains the Factory Sound-Enhancement Tube
Parts #1016-1048 and #1016-1049 include an inlet configuration that accommodates the Camaro’s factory sound-enhancement tube.
These are not the sound-tube-delete versions.
Customers wanting to eliminate the complete sound-tube assembly should use the corresponding Roto-Fab sound-tube-delete intake:
- Part #1016-1050 with a pre-oiled filter
- Part #1016-1051 with a dry filter

Important Fitment Information
This intake is cataloged for the naturally aspirated Camaro SS 6.2L V8. It should not be assumed to fit the following applications:
- Camaro ZL1 with the supercharged 6.2L engine
- Camaro with the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine
- Camaro with the 3.6L V6 engine
- Camaro with an aftermarket supercharger
- Applications requiring removal of the factory sound-enhancement tube
Roto-Fab offers separate intake systems for the Camaro ZL1 and for Camaro SS vehicles equipped with specific aftermarket supercharger systems.
This intake is designed as a direct-fit system for compatible vehicles. Detailed, step-by-step color instructions are provided by Roto-Fab.
Allow the engine to cool before beginning installation. Confirm that the mass-airflow sensor is installed in the correct orientation and that every intake connection is properly seated before starting the engine.
After installation, inspect the system for proper clearance and secure connections. Check the filter periodically, particularly when the vehicle is driven in dusty or dirty conditions.
Roto-Fab advises that normal filter service may not be necessary until approximately 25,000 to 30,000 miles. Filter condition and operating environment should determine the actual service interval. Do not use heat to dry either filter because heat can cause the filter media to shrink.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Roto-Fab 1016-1048 and 1016-1049?
Part #1016-1048 includes a pre-oiled filter. Part #1016-1049 includes a dry filter. The remaining intake configuration and verified Camaro SS application are the same.
Do these intakes retain the factory sound tube?
Yes. Both parts accommodate and retain the factory sound-enhancement tube.
Which versions delete the factory sound tube?
Part #1016-1050 is the sound-tube-delete intake with an oiled filter. Part #1016-1051 is the sound-tube-delete intake with a dry filter.
Does this intake require an aftermarket tune?
No. Roto-Fab specifies that parts #1016-1048 and #1016-1049 operate without aftermarket tuning on compatible applications.
What is the advantage of the oiled filter?
The pre-oiled filter is designed for high airflow and reusable service. It must be cleaned and correctly re-oiled when maintenance is required.
What is the advantage of the dry filter?
The dry filter does not require filter oil, simplifying routine filter servicing and eliminating the possibility of applying too much oil.
What is the replacement filter for part #1016-1048?
The replacement oiled filter is Roto-Fab part #1013-5013.
What is the replacement filter for part #1016-1049?

How much oil does the oiled filter require?
Roto-Fab specifies 89 grams of filter oil when servicing the oiled filter.
Will this intake make the Camaro louder?
The intake produces a more noticeable and aggressive induction sound during acceleration. Normal cruising sound remains less pronounced than under heavy throttle.
Does it fit the Camaro ZL1?
No. The supercharged Camaro ZL1 uses a different Roto-Fab intake system.
Does it fit a Camaro with an aftermarket supercharger?
Not necessarily. Roto-Fab manufactures different intake systems for specific LT4, Whipple, Edelbrock E-Force and Magnuson Heartbeat supercharger configurations.
Is this intake legal for sale or use in California?
No. Roto-Fab states that its intake systems are not CARB-approved and are not available for sale, use or distribution in California. Customers should also check applicable state and local emissions regulations.
What warranty does Roto-Fab provide?
Roto-Fab provides a one-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. The original purchase invoice is required for a warranty claim.
