Hawks Motorsports offers our clients this 987-KIT 1998-2002 Camaro/Firebird LS1 8-Rib Drive Conversion Kit, 10% Overdrive Damper, Innovators West. This kit is designed for 1998-2002 LS1-powered F-Body Camaro and Firebird applications, converting the accessory drive to an 8-rib belt system while adding a 10% overdrive harmonic damper. The included damper is SFI 18.1 rated.

If you're putting a blower on an LS1 F-Body, the belt drive needs to be able to take the abuse. Going from six ribs to eight gives the belt more bite, and the 10% overdrive crank damper helps get the supercharger moving without relying entirely on a tiny blower pulley. This is the kind of upgrade that belongs on a serious LS setup where belt slip isn't something you want to discover at full throttle.

The 987-KIT brings the major front-drive components together around the 8-rib system, including the 10% overdrive damper, power steering pulley, alternator pulley, smooth idler pulley, and ribbed tensioner pulley. Non-OEM pulleys supplied with an aftermarket supercharger may need to be replaced separately to complete the conversion.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

• This listing is for one 987-KIT 8-rib drive conversion kit.
• Verify complete kit contents before installation.
• Serpentine belt is not included unless specifically stated.
• Aftermarket supercharger pulleys supplied with a blower system may need to be replaced separately to complete the 8-rib conversion.
• An Innovators West-specific crankshaft pin kit is required when the damper is installed on a stock non-keyed crankshaft.
• Verify crankshaft snout, keyway, pulley alignment, belt routing, and belt length before final installation.
• The optional double 3/16-inch keyway requires the crankshaft to be machined for a second keyway 180° from the original.
• Use the proper harmonic damper installation procedure and follow manufacturer torque specifications.
• Verify fitment before ordering on modified or engine-swapped F-Bodies.

Super Duty Blower Hub Option:

• The Super Duty Blower Hub is a thicker hub that provides greater resistance to hub cracking under high-power supercharged applications producing 750 rwhp and greater.
• This option includes a new custom-made timing cover seal to adapt the oversized hub to a stock timing cover.

Underdrive Alternator Option:

• The Underdrive Alternator option uses a larger-diameter 2.800-inch alternator pulley designed to slow alternator speed on high-RPM race engines operating at 7,500 RPM or higher.
• Slowing the alternator may cause charging issues at idle on street-driven vehicles.
• This option is intended primarily for high-RPM race applications.
