Restore the operation of your rear fuel-filler door with this OER reproduction fuel-door mechanism. Manufactured from stamped steel to original specifications, the assembly combines the fuel-door bracket, pivoting hinge and tension spring into one replacement unit.
The spring-loaded hinge mechanism allows the fuel door to open and close correctly while supporting the plastic fuel-door lens in the center of the rear tail-light panel. It is an excellent replacement for an original mechanism that is bent, rusted, damaged, seized or missing.
This concealed mechanism can be used with the Formula and Trans Am smoke fuel doors previously listed, including OER part #5973205 with the recessed bird-emblem area and OER part #5973870 with the smooth, non-recessed face.
This listing is intended specifically for 1979-1981 Firebird Formula and Trans Am fuel-door applications. The mechanism does not determine the vehicle’s exterior appearance; the attached fuel-door lens must have the correct smoke Formula/Trans Am design. Base Firebird and Esprit fuel doors have a different exterior appearance and are not included as appearance-correct applications.
